ACADEMIC EVALUATION CRITERIA

Eastern Mediterranean University Rector's Office sets the following criteria pursuant to the Article 6 of "Eastern Mediterranean University Academic Staff Title By-law" with the approval of Eastern Mediterranean University Executive Board.

GENERAL RULES

The following rules apply for all disciplines:

1.      All the other criteria regarding the first-time appointment as professorial staff (Assist. Prof., Assoc. Prof. & Prof.) and extension of the period of duty is as stated in EMU Rules and Regulations. Academic Evaluation Criteria are used for first-time appointment and promotional purposes.

2.      “National” or “domestic” events refer to events taking place in Turkey, TRNC or home country of the professorial staff which are not regarded as international events.

3.      Scoring of joint work is conducted as stated at the end of the discipline score distribution chart, if not defined otherwise. If nothing has been specified about the scoring, the author gets full points in publications with a single author, and the score is divided equally among the authors in publications with multiple authors. The chart in question is not used for joint event scorings in doctoral and assistant professorship evaluations. All publications are evaluated separately based on the principle of “single author”.

4.      Criteria for disciplines that are not mentioned in this document is to be added to the present criteria upon the decision of University Executive Board on the matter. However, in case of an urgent need for these disciplines, in accordance with the general applications in other disciplines; Inter-University Council criteria for associate professorship will be sought for promotions to associate professorship, and twice the criteria for associate professorship for promotions to professorship.

5.      Bearing in mind the Science Disciplines and Key Words list accessible at  TR Inter-University Council’s website (the Associate Professorship Application Requirements tab available under the Associate Professorship Information System page), candidates must specify a science discipline and a minimum of 1 (one), maximum of 3 (three) keywords related to the specified field of science.

6.      Language proficiency requirements for applicants;

a.      For Associate Professorship application, candidates must score the points specified below out of 100 points from international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent to the central foreign language exams by the Higher Education Council;

                                                      i.      minimum 80 points for candidates who work in English-medium programs,

                                                    ii.      minimum 65 points for candidates who work in Turkish-medium programs.

b.      For Assistant Professorship or Professorship application, at least one of the criteria below should be met;

                                                      i.      Candidates must obtain following points out of 100 points from international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent to the central foreign language exams by the Higher Education Council;

1.      minimum 80 points for candidates who work in English-medium programs,

2.      minimum 65 points for candidates who work in Turkish-medium programs.

                                                    ii.      The candidate’s mother tongue being English.

                                                   iii.      Candidate is required to meet the following criteria;

1.      Completing at least two of the undergraduate, postgraduate or doctorate degrees in an English-medium Program in the event of working in an English-medium program,

2.      Completing at least one of the undergraduate, postgraduate or doctorate degrees in an English-medium Program in the event of working in a Turkish-medium program.

7.      Mandatory Total Points might be increased if all the special conditions for disciplines have been met.

8.      Each piece of work is scored by being included in only one section of the ADEK score table (including Att. A).

9.      For all disciplines, candidates are obliged to get 20 points for Associate Professorship and 40 points for Professorship from the scorecard stated in Att. A (old ADEK scorecard).

    EU Framework Programs: They are one of the Community Programs established by the EU in order to bring the national policies and practices of the member and candidate countries in various fields closer to each other.

DEFINITIONS

Primary Author: A candidate is referred as the primary author in publications stated below:

(a)   Single-author article

(b)   An article written with post graduate student(s) for whom the candidate is the supervisor (multiple students and a second supervisor can participate in the study)

(c)    Being listed as the first author of a multiple-author publication (for only disciplines of “Health Sciences” and “Sports Sciences”)

(d)   For “Educational Sciences”, “Philology”, “Law” and “Social, Humanities and Administrative Sciences” disciplines, meeting only one of the above-mentioned criteria ((a), (b) or(c)) is adequate for the Professorship title.

 

National Publishing House: A publishing house carrying on business at the national level for at least five years, and whose publications are catalogued in university libraries in Turkey and lastly, who has published minimum of 20 books of different authors in the same genre.

 

International Publishing House: A publishing house carrying on business at the international level for at least five years, and whose publications are catalogued in university libraries around the world and lastly, who has published minimum of 20 books of different authors in the same genre.

 

International Scientific Meeting: A meeting with a scientific board consisting of scientists from different countries where the presentations are subject to a scientific preliminary examination before they are accepted to the meeting.

 

National Scientific Meeting: A meeting with a scientific board consisting of scientists from different organizations at a national level where the presentations are subject to a scientific preliminary examination before they are accepted to the meeting.

 

International Patent: Patent application with a research report by international research offices (PCT - Patent Cooperation Treaty) that the invention contains a new and inventive step.

 

National Patent: Patent application with a research report by the Turkish Patent Institute that the invention contains a new and inventive step

 

Published Article: Original, printed or electronically published article, provided that it has contributed to science in its field

 

Personal Activity/Event: Activities or events such as art, art design and project exhibitions. Solo exhibitions consist of multiple work of the candidate. Maximum 25% of previous studies can take place in the next event/project. Documentation is compulsory.

Exhibition: Solo or joint/group events (minimum 2 participants) containing the art work of the candidate.

Context-oriented Work: Two- or three-dimensional art works designed for a specific place or environment, comprehensive architectural space design applications

Art Workshop / Symposium: An art event attended by elected or invited artists. Participants are required to create and exhibit at least one artwork during the workshop and symposium. It is compulsory to document the invitation letter and the created artwork.

Event Management – Production / Curatorship: Project designing of art events; organizing exhibitions in accordance with the context of the events; inviting artists to the exhibitions whose art form fit the scope of the exhibition; coordinating the press and public relation matters of the exhibition; administering applied events like workshop and symposium.

Exhibiting Art-work in Museums: Personal work such as artwork, design or projects being purchased by public or private museums or donating such work to the museums for exhibitions.

Works/studies Appearing in Publications: Artwork, projects, designs, applications appearing in publishing organs such as books, encyclopedia, catalogue, magazine, TV and movie etc. (with the exception of publications partaking of an announcement or advertisement).

Jury membership: Undertaking duty as a jury member in related projects, design and art events (excluding the Thesis and Associate Professorship juries).

Reviews: Comments, critics and reviews published about important art events (solo/group exhibitions, art biennales, art symposiums, film competitions and festivals) in catalogues, newspapers and magazines.


EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES DISCIPLINE

 

Those who have a doctorate degree in the field of elementary school teacher education will choose elementary education as their scientific field and keywords suitable for their field of study. The same is valid for those who have a doctorate degree in science, social studies and mathematics teacher education programs, all of which are other programs of the field of elementary education.
